It is with a heavy heart that we learned of the sad and untimely passing of our esteemed colleague Juan Carmelo Gómez Fernández, professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UMU.
In addition to dedicating himself to research and teaching, Juan Carmelo also served as president and Councillor of our Society, as well as being a member of the board of directors of the International Union of Biophysics and treasurer of the Federation of Latin American Biophysical Societies.
We have lost one of the most internationally distinguished biophysicists, who has forever left his mark on the study of biomembranes. Many of us are mourning the loss of a good and dependable friend and mentor. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.
